I want to get eq running on my laptop so i don't have to ever switch back to my vista partition.

I know at least one of you has done this before so I'm looking for a little bit of help.

Running ubuntu 8.10 x86_64

I haven't done it myself but have researched it in the past. From reading post on mq boards. It can be done but hard to configure it though the errors you might get. From what I understand you will have to run innerspace only as MQ will not work on it cause it will not inject into it.

Some Info

Let me know how it goes as I may consider trying it again on another system

I'm thinking at this point I would probably have the most luck with cedega

There was a thread over at the MQ2 forums about getting EQ/MQ running under linux. Quick search on linux shows:

http://www.macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15701&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=linux

Which looks like "Everquest runs out of the box for me in Ubuntu Linux 64bit using Wine 1.1.1. "

... And ...

"I had some time to give to this tonight and grabbed Wine 1.1.2 and gave it a go.

It works great, MQ2 included. I had to re-MQ2Auth.exe even though Linux and Windows are on the same box (dual-boot). It seems quite a bit faster than the windows EQ, loads bar goes FAST, char select to world is only a couple of seconds. In game seems very snappy and MQ2 works just fine. "

I have it installed/running on a linux system, did it when one of our users was having linux issues.

htw

i would say wine but someone beat me to it, I use it on one of my boxes and htw's compile works fine on it.

I did it one summer with Cedega during a period when WINE was not offering support. (Something to do with DX9 IIRC.)

Sometimes, the edge of the screen would be truncated or the fonts would be a bit weird but it ran fine.

Why did I stop? No support for MMObugs compile in Linux.

Ok I see now. The version of wine I have on my laptop is 1.0.1. I'll have to see about upgrading that.

I got mine running using Wine and Winedoors. Funny thing is I zone faster on my linux box then I do on my windows box, and almost no lag.

mind a little insight on how you got it running.

Sure it don't crash and burn every 2 hours too =)
