Hey all,

My 3-4 year old duo core is finally going tits up (slowly, and painfully). Boot times are getting longer, the time it works is getting shorter, newer programs like Starcraft II sometimes load, but mostly just hang and freeze... so I'm in the market for a new computer. I'm not as tech savvy as some folks who can just buy a shitload of great components, throw them all together, and make it work... I have the basics, but if you asked me to flash my bios I'd look at you with a deer-in-the-headlights look and then google it on my good comp.

Here's what I'm thinking about picking up from cyperpowerpc.com... Let me know what you guys think. I'm essentially buying it as a gaming computer (I box 3-4 toons at a time on my current comp... hopefully I'd be able to expand that to 6 or so with something like this... full settings in EQ).

It's also priced at $2418.00 as it is below.

Thanks for the input.

Looks nice, but I'd think twice about buying from cyberpowerpc. Their customer support SUCKS ASS. Seriously, last machine I ordered from them had problems out of the box, I called their "support" numerous times, was always put on hold for an hour just to be told they couldn't help me and would have a tech call me back shortly...which never happened. Dozens of unreturned emails as well. I'll never order from them again.

Edit: I guess I should mention this was 3ish years ago. I'll never give them another chance again after this, though. I've built my own since then, and will continue to.

Ah, I've bought 2 comps so far from them and never had any issues. Do you have a suggestion of somewhere else to buy from for someone who doesn't really feel like trying to build their own higher end system?

Not to bad, but tbh i built a machine like that only costed me 1800 bucks from newegg when i built it myself. Also put a solid state in mine and still came out cheaper then that.

Would easily box, but I think there are cheaper options.

Unfortunately I do not. That was the only place I had ordered custom built PC's from (ordered two from them, first one I never needed to contact customer support).

Putting a comp together is nothing, i'd save the money and just ask around here when all the parts come in for help putting it together.

So besides price and my apprehension at my first system build, is there anything about the components you'd change or that don't make sense? For example ... I thought maybe a diff mb would be better since I don't intend on sli'ing 3 vid cards and having 3 slots seemed overkill. I also want to give myself room to upgrade into 8 or 12 gig ram at one point or another

the one thing I would chance is the Motherboard. I prefer either Asus or Intel Mobos. most any Mobo that will take an I7 CPU will support 16Gb of Ram

Vista??? how'd I miss that?

OK I just realized that it said Vista Ultimate. That's like gold plating a pile of dog crap. I have Vista U at home and it works well enough because my machine can handle it, but would prefre Win 7 or even XP. I would reinstall XP with license from my old machine just been too lazy.
Still a nice machine for the $$

For $2400 you can build 8 computers that can quad box EQ1 and have money left over to make one a bit more powerful to run SC2.

I have purchase 4 PCs from Cyberpower over the past few years. I Have have good luck with everything so far. I like the convenience of not having to build my PC. I have built a lot of machines in the past. I got sick of running into compatability issues etc. The PC you have quoted seems a bit over priced to me. You may want to look at some of the other models they offer. Dont go for the 3 way graphic mobo unless you intend to use it. I would also not get the extreme edition of the CPU. You are adding a lot of cost for very little performance increase.

i posted this same question before, but i'll throw it out again since there is so much attention to this thread:

what are the specs required to box six to eight toons on a single computer? old models. no effects. minimum settings.

of course, still want system to be very responsive. reasonable zone times. no vid lag on whatever is the active window.

any decent dual core, 8 gigs of ram, decent vid card, and your ready forsix toons easy

I 6 box with AMD Athlon II X2 Dual-Core , 8 gigs ram and a geforce 9800gt. No lag whatsoever with new models but no other graphics. Once I start turning anything else on it starts to lag a little so I suppose there's a starting point ...

http://www.walmart.com/ip/eMachines-ET1331G-07w/14314622 is what I started with .. yea pos but was cheap.

walked in to comp usa

walked out under 600 bucks later

i have botted as many as 10 toons (lagged but loaded as many as 12

gateway sys 8 gigs ram vista 64 intel 2 quad core 2.5 ghz cpu, radeon HD 4350

off the shelf (had keyboard mouse monitor so that didnt play into cost)

paying 1 grand for a gaming capable system is retarded paying 2 is worse and wtf 2k+

check out fry's and check out tiger direct (now comp usa)

i posted this same question before, but i'll throw it out again since there is so much attention to this thread:

Sorry, I guess I missed the part where throwing out your own only slightly related questions that are ambiguous at best is cool if you use a thread that's getting some action.

...

Anyway. I guess my point was... I'm not building a system just to box... I can do that on my crappy duo core 4 gig machine. I want to grow out of this and into a system that will keep me good for another 3-4 years like this one has. Now that I'm home from work I'll be looking through some of the links provided and checking out other places (tiger direct?) and maybe newegg ... as for the vista thing, as much as I'd hate to format an otherwise brand new computer, I do have a full version of windows 7 home premium sitting here that will be unused once i trash this comp.

I'm looking at this on iBUYPOWER (through newegg... and honestly... this ibuypower site looks strangely like cyperpowerpc)...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227298

Is roughly the same price as the cyberpowerpc comp I customized... only major differences I see is the one I customized through cyberpower had a better vid card, but 1/2 as much ram. Apples to oranges, I think. The more that I think about it, the more I might go with the extra ram and not worry too much about a slightly better vid card. I never really watch HD movies or do anything super ridiculous (movie editing, etc), so the RAM for boxing and running lots of stuff at once might be a better option.

Anyone have any experience buying these systems from iBUYPOWER? Are they already built, or does everything come in a pile in a box and I'm expected to throw it together?
