What Should I Do About Account Sharing?

I have another list 12 people who have shared there MMOBugs account information with others within the last 2 hours. I haven't acted on it just yet.

Everyone tells me I should do something different to them so what I'd really like to know is what the members think I should do.

They've been warned already. I say either remove the subscription and/or ban em. If temporary ban it should last atleast through the next client patch.

I'm all for people making ammends, coming clean, taking responsibility, behing honest, having some morals, and doing the right thing.

Granted, we're dealing with a bunch of hackers here.

I would say if you are sharing your account with others, stop it now, change your password, and PM Fry and let him know about it.. I'll bet you'll get more praise for being honest than flame for sharing. If you do the right thing, you'll not only show your honesty, you'll win alot of respect from the others here.

If you just ignore it and try to cheat the system, you'll end up losing more than your account. We have a great community here, and the majority are more than willing to help out. It's well worth the price.

First offense I would change their password and send out a stern Warning. After that I say flat out IP banning. Perhaps there are circumstances where someone from Arizona is visiting a relative in Michigan and is just checking while they are there, but I would say that if you see repeated things over a period of time the red flag should go up.

i look at it this way, i am paying for a service at mmobugs, and i am very happy for it. Sharring an account to MMobugs = stealing from every one here.

if the IP comes from 2 different ends of the world and its very sure it cant be the same person downloading it for different machines.

first an E-mail, saying stop it, after that i say FRY them )P

I’ve already screwed up this way.

The idea was to get more users to support the site.

Go here and try it out, if you like it then pony up for a subscription.

Most did just that, but two didn’t.

One called when I changed my password. I reminded him that I’d asked him to support the site. He remembered and bought a lifetime membership that day.

The other person got mad. Sadly that’s par for the course with this person.

I would have just sent the zip, but I thought it was important for them to see the forums and such. It didn’t backfire to bad.

The total number of people that come here now from this is probably about 30. They are all hooked good and will not be leaving anytime soon.

I agree with Wicked, change their password and send them a warning e-mail. If they do it again permanently close the account and IP ban.

At the end of the day, the people sharing their account info are adding nothing to the community as a whole, and leaching away more than they should. They are no great loss.

so 131 members and 220 downloads. I edited out everyone who downloaded just once. I think a better question would be why the F#$* do these people need this downloaded 3+ times.? even one downloading a total of 10 times.

just food for thought. Im not calling people out im sure there are defenses im just curious as all get out why so many times.

I downloaded twice because I have two computers here. My wife's and my own. Sitting almost side by side.

I'm sure a few people are the same. Dunno why you would have ten computers too download on though =)

I agree, they have already been warned. I like the idea of changing the pw and giving a last resort warning. If it happens again, IP ban.

Fathead, this post is based exactly off that information, except we as moderators / admins can see abit more then what you can see.

Some people legitamitley download 4+ copies from one single IP address, which isnt a problem.

again im sure there are legitimate reasons. just going off what i can see multiple downloads within minutes plausible. multiple downloads hours apart, fishy. and even ten downloads hehe damn dont you ever save to disk?

I say if people are stupid enough after all the warnings download from multiple ips download multiple times thats all $$ being lost to bandwidth.

Burn the cheap F$*%&ers. and if you are going to cheat mmobugs.

why download 4 copies? your at the same damn ip just move it in our network. i run 4 pcs and have never downloaded more then 1 zip even when I compiled it myself. Download move to other pcs compile play.

I say supsend make them repurchase. if it happends again send them a nice virus

is it the numbers of downloads you are woried about, or rather where the downloads is comming from ?

Downloading 6 copies = not a real problem imo. The problem is, if the 6 downloads = from very diffefent IPS.

Keep in mind that some people 2 or 3 box....I even know someone who 6 boxes on 6 different computers. I have no clue if he uses MQ2 though.

I really couldn't care less if people download 10 copys from the same IP. If you have 10 computers and that’s the most easy way for that’s fine by me. That’s what you pay for. Bandwidth isn't a huge problem at the moment, only during peak time which I think is more of a SQL problem not bandwidth.

It's when I see 6 or so downloads all from different IP addresses that I care about.

Ok, first off I'm going to take a big step and admit guilt here ><

Yes, I've let a friend use my account to download a compile before. Now, with that said, that was before I read the post in the general forum, and before anyone told me that it was against the rules for people to share their account. I learned about MMObugs because a friend sent me a compile, and I saw the advertisment there. Was I a member then? No. I have just always figured since we find exploits and bugs daily that sharing accounts was a subject that was not cared about my most.

My suggestion? Don't take hard action on those who didn't know the rules previously. Changing the info and sending a warning in a PM seems like a good idea to me, because there are some people who legitimately did not know that it was a bad thing to do. Additionally, it would be nice to see it stickied on the general members forum because I rarely check this forum now that I have access to the others.

Again, I may be shooting myself in the foot by posting this, but now that it's been brought to my attention, I will find a way to change my info, and I'll let you all check to see my downloads. I apologize, but please take into account there are some people who make mistakes, and some people who just didn't know.

atiasradio does make a very good point. I need to get better rules drawn up and need to put these rules in an easy to find location so that everyone can and will read them, especially before forking over a subscription payment. People need to know the rules or they wont even know they are breaking any.

well i for one dont share my info fry can check my i.p if he likes all from minnesota lol. only reason i got it twice is i got it before fry told me 2 and had to get it again. sorry lol

and as far as peopel that are kick um from the site im about to buy a lifetime membership when i get paid.
