CPU % use

I am trying to figure out why my CPU percentage use is greater for my eq sessions on my desktop then on my laptop.

Laptop
ASUS G73JW
i7 CPU Q 740 1.73ghz
8 gig ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
Windows 8
SSD Drive

Desktop
Alienware Aurora-R4
i7 3820 @ 3.60ghz
16 gig ram
NVIDA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Windows 8
SSD Drive

Running 3 instances of eq on my laptop each uses
1.5 to 3.5 % cpu

Desktop 4 instances of eq each run at:
11 to 15 % cpu

All eq settings in game are the same. Any ideas why the desktop is using more CPU resoures?
