EDIT*Alright so I didn't try casting the pot yet, but the shared pot III need the caster to be 55-- so there goes that idea. Delete this thread if you want (though people may still want to know that you can claim on multiple chars).*

okay, so it looks like you can claim the pots on your alts too. save your pots on your main, and just make an alt and claim pots on him, buffing your main ( assuming you can hydra, or get a friend to do it). I haven't tested to see if you can only claim 8 of each type per account, but I doubt they put that block on there.

Not the greatest loophole, or perhaps not even much of a loophole--but I'm using pots from my alts.

This was already mostly effectively fixed, you can only click them if you are 55 or over.

i think perhaps you could reusse the potion after a server move ) ? prhaps some flag not follwo you like the one that say you already take the potion )

I think that's what some servers call a box. I know I've heard a few people call their boxed alts 'hydras' before.

Probably overanalyzing, but I think 'boxing' also refers more to 2- or 3-boxing (to include boxing within a group), while 'hydra' implies boxing a full group with no other players present.

Ah I didn't realize that distinction Zinky. I'm pretty sure that when I heard it used, somebody was just referring to their one boxed alt. However, it was a while ago, and I could easily be wrong. It definitely isn't the lingo used on any of the servers I've played on.

On a side note, I get a kick out of the slight variations that develop in the language used from server to server. Various names for camps, acronyms, and other things always seem to be slightly different. That's one of the things I'm looking forward to with the server merge is the mixing of two "server cultures". I remember it took some getting used to during the first round of server merges back during OoW.

nothing bugs more more than these things in EQ

1.) The South wall of wall of slaughter being called the "west wall" camp, that wall isn't remotely to the west.

2.) The term "serverwide"

3.) The Small Bank in pok is larger than the main bank.

it bugs me that people call old man mckenzie missions OMM missions >< couldn't they find a new acronym that doesn't mean overlord mata muram?

I've always heard and used hydra meaning boxing one or more characters. It's been around quite a while on my server, so if I had to guess--I'd say it's just running more than one char (back in the day most people couldn't run 6 characters).

HAH. Well, a lot of people don't like the term hydra - but box fits in the same category. It was started as a way to mean you run multiple "boxes", a.k.a. PCs. Then people started using it to just refer to anyone playing multiple accounts at the same time, even if they were all on the same PC.

Back when the game came out, I know on Veeshan (and then later on Saryrn), hydra was commonly used to refer to people who would play multiple chars at the same time - whether on different systems, or on one (via eqwindows) - and the toon(s) were not considered a 'main'. Remember, back then you were forced to full screen, and if you alt-tabbed out (or minimized in any way), it'd linkdead you. EQWindows let you by that, of course.

The 2 terms that I heard mostly, were hydra (as I mention above), and alt - meaning just a different toon on a main's account.

Boxing came up later it seemed, as it was more and more common to find people playing who were using multiple computers, as opposed to running multiple accounts on one machine via eqwindows.

Seems like later, it just got all mashed together, and everyone called it "boxing".

Dunno why people get annoyed with a term like that. Calling a 'many headed gamer' and his toons, hydras, makes as much sense to me as saying by running several toons on the same PC you are 'boxing'.

Wouldn't it be a reverse hydra though? One brain and many bodies....

Alts = diff toons on same acct of either a Main or a Bot
Bot = Main Character on an acct that supports a Main
Main=Primary character u play and or focus on

then there is botting and boxing, when u explain to others that u are playing more characters than your "main" at once

that sound about right?

Now im guessing Alt is short for alternate, im not however clear of what bot is short for (wife was saying robot for some reason) but it cant be a MQ term cause i heard that term long b4 I knew about MQ

A bot (short for "robot") is a program that operates as an agent for a user or another program or simulates a human activity. On the Internet, the most ubiquitous bots are the programs, also called spiders or crawlers, that access Web sites and gather their content for search engine indexes.

A chatterbot is a program that can simulate talk with a human being. One of the first and most famous chatterbots (prior to the Web) was Eliza, a program that pretended to be a psychotherapist and answered questions with other questions.
Red and Andrette were names of two early programs that could be customized to answer questions from users seeking service for a product. Such a program is sometimes called a virtual representative or a virtual service agent.

A shopbot is a program that shops around the Web on your behalf and locates the best price for a product you're looking for. There are also bots such as OpenSesame that observe a user's patterns in navigating a Web site and customize the site for that user.

A knowbot is a program that collects knowledge for a user by automatically visiting Internet sites and gathering information that meets certain specified criteria.

Aye, it was around long before EQ/MQ, but was picked up for the same slang - i.e., robot.
