Trying to change the range that /target will work at. What is the command?

Hm, It's giving me the options to change it, but nothing is changing. What is the command to change it to say, 10000?

Why exactly is the ranged set to the standard limit now? There isn't any tracking or logging on that now is there? Just a new standard precaution I'd assume?
