I am looking for any pro-American songs that are not Country. If you know of any that are legitimately pro-American, please post. Prefer those from the last 30 or so years.

Background: My wife and I were having a discussion about songs that celebrated our country. Every song we could think of in the last 25-30 years is country. Prior to that there are a few more options but still not that many. She thinks she remembers a song about the kids of America from the 90's but I don't know which she is talking about.

The Boss - "Born in the USA" isnt country, more like classic rock these days.

"Born in the USA" is not so much a patriotic song as a thumb of the teeth to the government for the treatment of Vets...

Every song on the Rocky soundtracks.

Sorry cuda but I disagree. They are inspiring songs about doing your best, taking on all odds, getting up when you are down, that kind of thing, sure. But pro-America? only one I can point to would be "Living in America" by James Brown on Rocky IV soundtrack and it's from before the 80s.

Born in the USA and the parody Born in East LA are not really pro-America songs.

Here are some country songs. I am really looking for other genres though.

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN -- Darryl Worley

WHERE WERE YOU -- Alan Jackson

THIS AIN'T NO RAG -- Charlie Daniels Band

NEVER DID THINK THAT IT EVER COULD HAPPEN AGAIN -- Charlie Daniels Band

COURTESY OF THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE -- Toby Keith

AMERICAN CHILD -- Phil Vasser

GOD BLESS THE USA -- Lee Greenwood

IRAQ & ROLL -- Clint Black

WHERE THE STARS AND THE STRIPES AND THE EAGLES FLY -- Aaron Tippin

Edit:

There are a couple songs that are for veterans which could be considered pro-America. There is Will.i.am's blatantly pro-Obama song but that's not really pro-America since it's just for one man. Still looking for others. Neil Diamond - America is the only somewhat recent one I can think of. Really hope there is more patriotic spirit in this country than just country singers.

2nd Edit:
Can someone give me their opinion of these songs?
Don't Tread On Me - Damn Yankees
You Can Still Rock In America - Night Ranger
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. - John Cougar Melloncamp
America's Song - Bono & Will.i.am

My all time favorite song:

So frustrating there isn't much in the way of Patriotic American music in the last 20 years.

Thanks for those guys. Credence and Don McLean I knew about but they are both from the 70s. Still great songs. The 70s was really the last decade there was an abundance of songs supporting the us across all genres. Country is the only one that is still pro-USA.

Anyone have comments or opinions on the songs I mentioned above?

lol. American Pie is nothing about America so much as how a plane crash affected music and a generation of people.. fyi. American Pie was the name of the airplane that crashed and killed Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper. A major newspaper used the headline "The Day the Music Died" IIRC, so that is how people found out about the crash and it stuck as what people referred to the event as.

Also: America - Fuck yeah. In case that isnt one of those Youtube links in a post above.

Mostly for our armed forces. But its one of my favorites.
