gm question

i am new to mq2 and love the xp/tell/gm window....I was in DC grinding the other day when all of a sudden, I get a message flashed that GM So and So just left the zone.
Does the gm alert not work?

It's definitely not to be relied on. GMs can be 100% invisible to you if they chose to do so. GM detection only works on visibile guides/GMs.

Guides dont have the ability to do so, Normal GMs i dont believe so also. Gm-Administraters and Dev's have it. Guides / GMs have the one where they are invisible, but detectable. GMs / Devs can look onto the game without being logged in on a character, therefore not being detected. Say theres a Code <A> for Players. GMs carrey a Code <A>B which is what the detector detects from a Character. Since Guides / GMs log in be 'invisible' they are detected by the code. And then Shows up.
