Hey guys, I'm toying around with coming back. I have a monk, zerker, and beastlord. I've considered finishing my SK or pally to have a tank--and maybe buying a cleric.

Of course, it would be easier if I just used tank and cleric mercs. Is this viable in mid to high end group content, like I'd be doing? I heard they made mercs better.

merc tanks are definatly tanking up to T4

merc clerics are definatly healing up to T4

Can they do it alone no (tanks need to slow mobs and heal them accordingly) , u mentioned zerk and bst (your dps), cleric merc is prob the most reliable of the 4 mercs but even they cant heal a paper tank

Good to know. So it might be safe to macro with a T4 tank/cleric, as long as I have slows?

Here are my experiences with using both a merc tank and merc cleric.

1) Make sure you have your tank merc on passive until you have mob in camp, or you will be having to move your characters all over the place to accomodate where the merc decided to fight.
2) Have a back up healer, I use a shaman for the slows and back up healing. When you get mob in camp, slow and then hit heal instantly on your tank, as the merc cleric lets the tank get pretty low at first, and one spike of incoming damage and the merc is gone. One you have helped the merc cleric to heal the tank, the merc does pretty good from then on, but keep your eyes on it.

This on T4 HoT stuff including nameds, you have to choose your nameds carefully though, cause if they charm your merc say goodnight, unless of course you have other character that can handle the hits.

Just some thoughts. I use it, maybe not the most effective, but I learn to deal with it.
