Your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze and sleep for another 10
minutes.

He stays up for days on end.
_________________________________

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water.
_________________________________

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
_________________________________

You put on your anti-war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up
with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.
_________________________________

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
_________________________________

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
________________________________

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.
________________________________

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his
brow.
________________________________

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order
wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.
________________________________

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapon is clean.
________________________________

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
________________________________

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.
________________________________
You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.

He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
________________________________

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.
_______________________________

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll
ever meet.
_______________________________

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and
remembers why he is fighting.
_______________________________

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.

He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.
________________________________

You see only what media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
_________________________________

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told.
_________________________________

You stay at home to watch TV.

He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep and eat.
_________________________________

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to get woken
up by gunfire.
_________________________________

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place
because of men like him.

If only there were men like him!

these always remind me why i joined so long ago

these always remind me why i stay in year after year

these remind me of why i pack my bags to go away from friends and family to far off lands

thanks for the reminder

Not all civilians are like that.. The people in the military hate war as much as the civilians who they fight to protect. They do what they know to be right and defend our rights to love or hate them for it.

You don't have to agree with what they do, but you do have to respect and support the men and women who defend your right to do so.

A big /salute to Army, Darg, and the rest of the people who do what needs to be done.

Congrats on that Hostagecs.

I'll be leaving for OEF the week after Thanksgiving. My trips are short thankfully (2-4 months usually), but this will be my 7th time leaving to go over there (6 to OEF, 1 to OIF for a total of 35 months so far). I feel for every single soldier, airman, marine and sailor that has to do our job. I thank all the people back in the US who support us. You don't have to agree with the reason we are there, and even I have my doubts sometimes, just let the guys and gals that are serving know you support them.

In January I'll be rolling over the big 2-0 mark, but have to stay to about 22 years of service due to an ADSO I incurred when the Army flashed big money in front of me.

Agreeing with all the others as you all gather your guns and walk down the streets in a hot and dry dusty day, I have to thank you for all that you do. You all give me the right to sit at my computer and type this whenever I please, you all protect me from the enemy, you all serve your country with honor and are respected by many:

Dear our father,
May your blessing be with our troops over seas, may you give them the power to walk and help the people who need it the most. May you be with their families as they struggle to find out when their dad, husband, wife, or mother, may come home. I pray father, that you give our troops a happy thanksgiving, let this day be the best they have had in a long time. Father, if you could guide all of our troops and bring them closer to you, give them the power and will to survive through their hard times. I pray, may you be with them forever through thick and thin. Thank you Father.

In Jesus Name, Amen
