McDonald v. Chicago oral arguments tomorrow (3/2/10)

Considering i do shift work, and most of the people i know do shift work, why is a Saturday different from any other day? I know this is off topic, but hell its just a 24 hour period.

i need the gov. to tell me if i can own a fire arm or not, i dont care if i have the right to one... i just need the gov. to let me know its ok, and if they want to take it away? fuck why not?

if you dont want guns. dont buy them! just my 2cents worth, and its only worth 2 cents.

thats all....

every time they raised minimum before the economy was not already stressed.

Are you referring to organized labor unions? In regards to helping not have to work 6 days a week?

You would be pro union, they are just as bad as political parties.

Yep, I'm referring to 'organized labor' (unions), who are 100 percent responsible for you having Saturdays off. And for shift laborers, are entirely responsible for the 40 hour work week (and the overtime you get when you exceed that).

Their other greatest hits include Equal Employment Opportunity (for those of you who like your ladies to have the opportunity to make some scratch, too), pretty much every single regulation related to safety in industrial jobs, any and all pension plans provided by private employers (the decline in these can be linked to the decline in organized labor), maternity leave and so on.

But hey, if you want to live in a world without Saturdays where pregnant women are expected to deliver in the middle of the office or on the factory floor -- wait, never mind, pregnant women would just be un-hire-able -- and where coal mining companies and plastics mills aren't required to monitor, report or try to prevent workplace accidents, then you might just get your wish, because organized labor isn't doing too well.

aye.... and we can alow the companies to just head to mexico and lay hundreds if not thousands off..... great going !
way off topic, was about guns, and to the original poster thanks for posting

Also, there's very little sense in JJ and I debating any of these points. I don't even consider myself a democrat. I consider myself a socialist. I'm left of left of left. JJ and I have less than nothing in common politically.

And there's no problem with that. I can imagine JJ would be about as good at being a creative writing professor as I would be at running my own online business. We're different people in different walks of life, and while I'd gladly live in a world where people with JJ's perspectives didn't exist, I'll readily admit that a world like that would probably be missing a lot of things I enjoy.

Whether JJ has a similar kind of respect for my beliefs doesn't really matter to me. If he were to spend a day in my shoes spewing his trademark variety of BS, the people I surround myself with would be very good at making him feel about an inch tall. I'm sure it would be the same the other way around. So whether it be guns, organized labor, health care, or the economy, there's simply no argument JJ or any of you could make that would make your beliefs ring true for me, just like there's no way I could possibly convince you that no human being deserves to make more than a cool million a year, or that access to family planning services is a fundamental human right.

There was a time for labor unions once. Their time has passed. Ask the US Automakers how great their doing with the strength of the unions killing the industry.

While I do agree labor unions are not needed at this point in time, without them things will get slack again and in the future their will be another need.

American Motors hurt themselves when they decided to make less dependable cars so that people would have to buy more. However I do believe that is no long the case, and I do only buy American.

How can one even converse with someone who outright says no one can change his mind. Again ignorance is bliss.

The worse part about loving my country is socialist pricks who love only what they want and hate the rest. Luckily that is the best part of loving my country as well.

Guess if we took away the right to listen to what music you like, that might make you want to fight for your freedoms again but, who knows. You might just go along with it.

Part of the reason they made less dependable cars is based on the overhead they had for employees. They started to cut corners with materials/Quality.

if the employees / employer could just split what the employees pay unions they both be happier. Make less on paper while bringing more cash home.

Freedom comes with the burden of having to tolerate things you might not like. - Bill Wiese

I don't think anyone is going to change their minds reading this thread, but that doesn't matter. The Supreme Court is not debating about if guns are protected or not.

Incorporation is more or less a done deal here (See Heller v D.C. for more info), they are only deciding which method is best suited. Let me break it down a bit:

Privilleges or Immunities clause: This has been dead for 140 years. The Slaughterhouse cases effectively gutted it (this came about because of racist reconstruction era laws). Basically this clause states that citizens have certain privilleges or immunities bestowed upon them. This is scary to a lot of people (especially on the right) because it would open a whole can of worms. Gay marriage, legalization of marijuana, hell, even polygamy! Basically everything that isn't regulated is understood to be protected. If it is to be regulated, it would need to go through Due Process.

Due Process: This is the standard way in which amendments have been incorporated to the states in the past. Incorporating this way will not have such a dramatic impact as PorI, but the end result for firearm ownership will be the same.

This will likely be released on the last day of the session (late june, maybe early july). In California, we have 3 big cases lined up waiting for the finding of McDonald. Nordyke, Pena, and Sykes. I suspect we will see an assault weapon ban challenge shortly afterwards. The dominos are falling.

It wasn't that they cut corners, they specifically designed a less durable engine. I'm trying to think of the engine they made back in the 70s that they put in a few cars, the thing was indestructible. These cars were lasting 300k miles easy so they quit making it. They aimed to make an engine that was last around 150k.

At no point in time during this period were they losing money, so you can't blame the union then, it was 100% corporate greed.

They point where they lost money is when people stopped buying their 150k cars and went to the 300k rice rockets.

But hey, i know it makes everyone feel better to blame Unions so have at it.

Oh with all that being said, I want to point out to you i've already stated the time for Unions comes and goes, and it should be gone right now.
