Burst DPS Question for Nec/Mage

So was on a raid tonight.. with my Wiz.

In TOV, and kicking the ass of a mob. Doing nice at 99... doing acceptable DPS for what I can do with AA etc.

I am in 4th place below a couple necros who are in range of my parse.. when suddenly at 30 percent... BLAM.. 3 mages and two necros LEAP ahead of me DPS wise.
I mean I did 5.6 Million total, and they leaped from even with me to a bit under.. to 14.8 MILLION total!

I was doing like 20K dps.. and they leaped up to 45 to 50K dps.

The pets were doing 10K per hit.. EVERY hit..

SO am I missing a buff or something to give the pets that burst damage? Or is there something else I am missing?

I have a necro friend who is also puzzled.. as he didn't know what they were doing to get that 10K per hit pet buff.

That is a mage AA that gives their pet a 37.5k Proc that can go off 30 times. That could account for about a million of their damage. Other than that, not sure other than some lucky procs.

As for making a necro pet hit for 10k per swing I don't know for sure, depends if they have the new pet focus or not. On my necro it is about 4k a swing with T2 VoA raid focus, I haven't gotten the new T1 RoF raid one on him yet, but seems to have made a large difference in our mages. Frenzy Dead for necros though is somewhat like frenzy burnout for mages and with a higher level raid focus possibly is what takes it over 10k a swing.

For necros, 50k+ DPS in ToV is rather easy actually, with a bard in the group they should actually be doing well over that even without full raid focus. My necro has RoF T1 raid arms and the rest of his focuses are T2 group armor from RoF, other then 1 earring which is also raid T1 for the extended detrimental focus. Boxxing my necro and several other toons in ToV I keep my necro easily above 40k almost all the time, usually 50k+ without running a macro for it. That is 16 dots or so on the named using quick med for no down time.

Necro fast dots work on the dragons in ToV, giving them a big advantage over most other raids for them as that gives them some "burst" DPS other then just having to keep 2 spell sets of dots stacked on the mob.

My guess is he wants to stay on par with the other members of his raid. So it does not look like he is just free loading or sucks.

This makes no sense.

If I played class A and my dps was being beaten, i'd want to know how Class A can improve... not how Class B is doing better than me.

OK hold the phone.

I am working on making sure I am playing my class properly.

ALSO my friend in guild is trying to play his NECRO properly.

When he sees a necro doing orders of magnitude more DPS with a pet than he has ever seen. And It makes no sense.. he was trying to figure how.. so he and the other necros can add to the dps.

Why the hell would you get the idea that I am trying to out do them DPS wise? I have been in here long enough to know how this works. My friend who introduced me to EQ back in 2001 started a necro when I started a Wiz.. we both still play.. and I learned LOGN ago.. in the end they do much better damage on raids for long term DPS. Short term.. hard core Wizzys at various points in the nerfing/boosting of classes have been top burst DPS. Or course it all changes as the nerf bat swings around.

SO no there is no whining about DPS being greater.. let me stuff that immediately.

I hold my own.. as does the necro who is curious. SO there is no worry of being accused of being a freeloader.
That title is held by a guildie who never targets shit and is the MA most of the time, and leaves during raids to go get food and shit... and doesn't do ANYTHING.. no fighting nothing.. and he is a tank type class.

THe necros pet.. specifically.. did 65K.
He was also puzzled by the attacks being done by the pet. I gather from what he said piercing is by a lower pet, and he isn't sure how it could do all of that.

Honestly I am wondering if there was a glitch that it read the pet.. and the swarm pets the same.

I don't know of any method for MQ2 to boost performance of a pet damage. I mean its not like warping, or targeting across a zone or something. I am not familiar of MQ2 having a DPS improvement.

I just wanted clarity on what was being asked, you made a clear point about how YOUR dmg/dps was FAR behind by the 30% and end results of the parse.

So I don't see how that is improving your dps and by the way if you aren't trying to out dps people, your not trying hard enough as a dps class.

Else any old class that can do dmg is a dps.

Them necro pets are swarm pets, so aren't affected by much of anything. Maybe bard auras? I know none of my necro pets have ever done that sort of damage?

I know with bard in group I get a notiable dps boost from swarm pets, but not that much.

If your necro friend wants to learn how to burn properly, the use of Funeral Pyre/Gift of Deathly Resolve/multiple saved spells sets for efficiency and maximum det spell haste/anguish robe/third spire and practice is all he needs.

You want to load all DoTs on mob, start GoDR start reloading dots twincasted once you have twincasted your top 4 dots start Funeral Pyre>Robe/Spire>Keep twin casting away. once GoDR fades you want to make sure not to refresh any DoTs right until the twincasted version is just faded. Once GoDR is faded, you basically just do your DoT rotation. Use Embalmers Carapace somewhere in there, and Glyph/7th when third/robe fades.

Depending on duration of the fight and adps could be anywhere from 70k-130k I don't know. Practice, timing, RNG and other extrinsic factors can make a difference...

I raid NTOV dragons pretty regularly. There is usually enough time between nameds for me to burn on every mob give or take a few. The low end of damage for my wiz is in the 30K range and the high end tends to be in the 60K range. And I know I should be doing better.

One reason the necro and mage DPS might be going up so much in the late 30% is they're hitting their own burns. Swarm pets can help to up a mage's damage, because of Salvo of Many. Decent mages should be in the 50K range (on the high end) against NTOV dragons, at least, that's what I see. I'm usually above necros as a wiz in the parse (usually in the top five on the parses, often number two, very rarely number one), but on the really long battles, I'll see the necros pop up above me in the parses.

So the dps numbers you've mentioned for necros and mages seem in-line for what I've experienced raiding these dragons on average. Your dps numbers seem very similar to what I was getting my first few NTOV runs. You might take a look at your burn set up, make sure you're using Claw to the most effect. Wish I could be more helpful.

P.S. I noticed you're 99. My damage skyrocketed between 95 and 100. Plus my wiz has all of the DPS AA completed. I think what you're seeing is necros and mages hitting their burns in the last 30%. I'm not sure what would make pets hit for 10K every time.

SO yeah I am going to relay all the info to the necro. I don't think he MQ2s.. good guy. But don't know him well enough to go there. I don't even talk about MQ2 with casual EQ RL friends.. I have found MQ2 is like religion and politics... never know when you are going to run into a zealot whose head spins around. SO I cant point him here.

Thanks for the heads up on the damage being on par with what others are seeing. That helps that things are in line.

As for my dps.. working on it.. biggest issue I have is being 99, and having shy of 3K aa. I have not done my burn AAs. Decent T1 and 2 ROF gear now. SO not bad.. just low AA, and not 100.

Using in group content, occasional raid.. a tweaked version of the bot macro, and some info from some stuff Dealings and Pete used. Trying to get it to work a bit better, and smoother, so when things proc, and or trigger, I cast the best spell.
Once I hit 100 and get some of the burns.. I will be a lot happier. And tweak my macro.

What I DO find frustrating... there used to be a great amount of wizzy info in Graffe.com.. as it was just about all there was for a wiz.... there isn't anything anymore that I know of that's current.

The Sony forums have some useful current posts about wizard AA's. I agree, though, it's frustrating because wizards get so many costly dmg-improving AA's and it's not easy to decide which are worth buying first. My wiz is a dps utility toon for me so I need to be able to just point him and have him blast away with little attention from me so I prefer AA's that boost his standard output rather than those which require attention and maintenance to max out.

Once you break 3000 AA's, subsequent purchases become costly since it takes more work to earn the AA's and the AA's themselves can cost as much as 18 PER LEVEL.
