Turn in of pre-looted quest items ???

Some quests require you to loot items from NPC's in order for the quest to update.

Is there a way to get a quest to update when turning in pre-looted items when the quest requires the items to be looted of off a specific NPC?

Sometimes, not all the time and most likely not a lot of the newer tasks, you can hand the items to an NPC which won't accept them and when you are 'given back' the items it can update the task.
