Cheating has become a serious concern to our EQ player base this past year. Exploits and hacks strike at the very heart of a game, creating deep resentment in the community as selfish players gain benefit at the expense of their honest fellows. You've let us know your thoughts, and we have taken action.

Players who partake in cheating are hereby put on notice: stop now. This isn't an idle warning. We have quietly invested significant behind the scenes effort into detecting cheaters quickly and accurately. The vast majority of players enjoy the game on a fair and even playing field. Those who gain unfair advantage over others will not be tolerated.

You know who you are, we know who you are, and you now have your warning. We strongly advise you to take heed and reform your ways immediately. There will be no second chances.

Directly from EQ Players front page.

Anything to worry about?

Yeah there's already a thread about this in the ban section if you wanna join in :D

Ultimately I think only time will tell.

Every now and then Sony will go on some ban waves to save public image and make it look like they are actively trying to combat cheating to the non cheaters.

Could they have new back end detection methods, sure.

I can't say it makes a lot of sense on their part from an economic standpoint. As everyone knows EQ is dwindling, if they spent a lot of money / time (they say "large investment") on something that would then also greatly cut into their profits, it's kind of like shooting yourself in the foot isn't it? They can't possibly think they are going to be able to bring in as many accounts as they would lose if they banned every MQ2 user.

But I've seen Sony do stranger things.

Me personally, I'm not going to change my play style one bit. I always take as many precautions as I can, but I'm not going to stop using MQ2. I'd say if you are really worried about it stay away from active hacks for a few weeks (warps and such), and wait to see what happens. There are going to be enough people that don't stop that if Sony really has some new detection methods we'll find out what it is soon enough.

EDIT: oops didn't see that there was another thread in the bans section on this. If an admin wants you can move my post over to that thread =/

General is probably an adequate location for an issue such as this; no one has been banned ...yet.

My guess is they are just going to bring whatever detection they have been using for /zone on TLP servers to live. Thats about it. For those of us who don't use active hacks, shouldn't really be any difference. But, just a guess don't take my word as gospel:D
