As per my experience, this is almost correct; the formula as I remember was (minlevel*1.5)+1. Hence, a level 10 could group with a 16, and a 52 could group with a 79.

It's been a while since I tested, however; I could be incorrect

Generally, it is level * 1.5 and you round up.

Somewhere in there, the plus 1 comes into effect. Last night, when that guy asked in the shoutbox and I replied using the "plus 1" formula, you then put your post together using just the "x 1.5". It made me curious, so I tested it with some lower levels and a level 18 was able to group and get exp with a level 28, so the "plus 1" does happen since your chart shows they could only group with a 27

I never rounded up. Then again I always use HighLevel / 1.5 = LowLevel

My expierience is that the +1 only comes into effect when the 1.5 ends in a fraction (hence the "rounding up").

In other words a level 49 would be able to group with a lvl 74 (49 * 1.5 = 73.5 so you "add 1" which is really only rounding up to 74). However, a level 50 (50 * 1.5 = 75) would group with a 75 and not a 76 (which would be a +1 to that).

I'm beginning to doubt there is any formula that is 100%, as (46*1.5)=69 but I have PLed a couple toons with a level 70 as soon as they reached 46 back when 70 was the cap. Just wish I had seen this sooner, as I have been waiting till 54 to PL alts with my 80 ranger when I coulda had them in PoV at 53....sadly they have changed the golems to constucts, so no more pullin 8+ at a time and clearing most the zone from 2nd gate house to AD ent with headshot

I was with two lvl 52's, and a lvl 78 murdering old seb...I know its not good xp anyways, but both with 100% aa, burning a lesson, we got absolutely 0 exp...we got the messages saying we gained experience, but we didn't get any actual xp...any ideas why that may have been? Just a bug or something?

There is a formula that works every time. High level / 1.5 and then round down (truncate - just get rid of the digits to the right of the decimal point).

70 / 1.5 = 46.66666... -> 46 (level 70 and level 46 can group).
71 / 1.5 = 47.33333... -> 47 (must be level 47 to group with a level 71).

80 / 1.5 = 53.33333... -> 53 (level 80 and level 53 can group).

85 / 1.5 = 56.66666... -> 56 (will have to be 56 to group with an 85 in the next expansion).

Note that this is the same thing as low level * 1.5 and then rounding up. I've just found that most people have an easier time with truncating than with rounding up.

If the higher lvl char kills a mob too low for him to get any xp, the lower level char will get 0 AA XP. He'll get regular XP but no AA xp.

Very true...I learned that the hard way. I shrouded a char down on full AA exp and took them someplace with my 80 cleric for 5 hours of mass killing. Over 600 mobs later, the shrouded char had made .3% of a single AA
