Similar to Fry's, build a Vanguard pc ....

I'm looking to buy a laptop, capable of playing at least one , hopefully 2 instances of eq at a time. Wireless internet a must as I'd use it while err... driving ... around... (sitting really, but in a car)

Looking to spend 1k or less on it ...

help !!

I have found a few at around 1k , but they have very generic components and are lacking a decent video card.

Anyway, anyone have any idea's on a good website I can configure a cheap , but nice ! , laptop at ? or maybe you have even purchased one recently for around the same price and will share the specs ?

thanks !

Running several eq sessions has more to do with ram than video card. If you find a laptop with 256mb video card (possibly even 128 not sure on this) and 2gb of ram you would be able to run at least two sessions fairly easily. Not sure how many of those you'll run across under 1k though.

I have a Gateway laptop that's close to said specs, has AMD 64 processor and a 128mb ATI X600 video card. I can run 2 accounts easily with full graphics and has a decent sized monitor. It was really good when I bought it, and I think I paid $1100. I'm sure it's way less then that now. I can run 3 accounts easily if I turn off graphics. Hope this helps.

was it a custom build Bunkhouse or a Gateway XXX type thing pre-built ?

I was looking around at wal-mart, (never purchased a computer from there before) and they had a laptop with 2g ddr2 ram, decent sized screen and spec's, amd something for like 949 $ ? or there abouts.

I was mainly just window shopping and figured if wal-mart had something like that I would get the specs on it and see what all a more direct computer outlet can produce at a similar cost.

Last time I purchased a computer I used a website a friend advised and pretty much picked everything I wanted for my desktop. It runs good, looks good, but their laptop pricing seemed a little high and errr... like anything when I start configuring stuff for what I want, over what I need .....

prices = ugh....

I dont know about pricing in the US, but in Australia to get a decent laptop to play games on you are talking $2500 - $3500

I think you will be stretched to purchase a laptop for 1k to play games on.

This is the last laptop I purchased but it was the 17" version (I can't see it for sale anymore)

It's a pretty decent gaming laptop for the price (At the time, I'm not sure now), but if you are really after something to play games on you need to go desktop. You pay too much for high end laptops.

Fry.

mainly want it for game / work use ... in that order.

will help with the ton of paperwork I get stuck with at work and will be a time killer for the boring / downtime.

I only play EQ currently , why I would want it too run at least 1 instance of eq , really hoping for 2 though so I can bot.

Already have a decent desktop, least for a year or two more ;P

One place you could kind of use to look for a used one with warranty is Dell's refurbished website. www.delloutlet.com is the link and once there just choose a computer type and then home user. It's hard to find a good deal there anymore but every great once in a while you'll run across one. I would just search under the different laptops for something with at least 2gb ram and at least a 128 card and for under $1000. Gateway and whatever probably have similar things, Dell is just all we're allowed to order at work so it's the only one I pay much attention too. I usually just build my own at home.

If you get a dell check your display. The display that it uses sometimes requires special drivers that wont ever get updated.
