What Should I Do About Account Sharing?

I downloaded twice because I have two computers here. My wife's and my own. Sitting almost side by side.

I'm sure a few people are the same. Dunno why you would have ten computers too download on though =)

I agree, they have already been warned. I like the idea of changing the pw and giving a last resort warning. If it happens again, IP ban.

Fathead, this post is based exactly off that information, except we as moderators / admins can see abit more then what you can see.

Some people legitamitley download 4+ copies from one single IP address, which isnt a problem.

again im sure there are legitimate reasons. just going off what i can see multiple downloads within minutes plausible. multiple downloads hours apart, fishy. and even ten downloads hehe damn dont you ever save to disk?

I say if people are stupid enough after all the warnings download from multiple ips download multiple times thats all $$ being lost to bandwidth.

why download 4 copies? your at the same damn ip just move it in our network. i run 4 pcs and have never downloaded more then 1 zip even when I compiled it myself. Download move to other pcs compile play.

I say supsend make them repurchase. if it happends again send them a nice virus

is it the numbers of downloads you are woried about, or rather where the downloads is comming from ?

Downloading 6 copies = not a real problem imo. The problem is, if the 6 downloads = from very diffefent IPS.

Keep in mind that some people 2 or 3 box....I even know someone who 6 boxes on 6 different computers. I have no clue if he uses MQ2 though.

I really couldn't care less if people download 10 copys from the same IP. If you have 10 computers and that’s the most easy way for that’s fine by me. That’s what you pay for. Bandwidth isn't a huge problem at the moment, only during peak time which I think is more of a SQL problem not bandwidth.

It's when I see 6 or so downloads all from different IP addresses that I care about.

Ok, first off I'm going to take a big step and admit guilt here ><

Yes, I've let a friend use my account to download a compile before. Now, with that said, that was before I read the post in the general forum, and before anyone told me that it was against the rules for people to share their account. I learned about MMObugs because a friend sent me a compile, and I saw the advertisment there. Was I a member then? No. I have just always figured since we find exploits and bugs daily that sharing accounts was a subject that was not cared about my most.

My suggestion? Don't take hard action on those who didn't know the rules previously. Changing the info and sending a warning in a PM seems like a good idea to me, because there are some people who legitimately did not know that it was a bad thing to do. Additionally, it would be nice to see it stickied on the general members forum because I rarely check this forum now that I have access to the others.

Again, I may be shooting myself in the foot by posting this, but now that it's been brought to my attention, I will find a way to change my info, and I'll let you all check to see my downloads. I apologize, but please take into account there are some people who make mistakes, and some people who just didn't know.

atiasradio does make a very good point. I need to get better rules drawn up and need to put these rules in an easy to find location so that everyone can and will read them, especially before forking over a subscription payment. People need to know the rules or they wont even know they are breaking any.

well i for one dont share my info fry can check my i.p if he likes all from minnesota lol. only reason i got it twice is i got it before fry told me 2 and had to get it again. sorry lol

and as far as peopel that are kick um from the site im about to buy a lifetime membership when i get paid.
