Absinthe
Hey guys, was just wondering if there was any other absintheur's out there that could recommend a high alcohol content, but yet smooth and fruity Absinthe? Thanks..
This is the bottle I just purchased, hoping it's as good as the reviews say http://www.alandia.de/absinthe/produ...-Hardcore.html

Well, it's legal in the U.S. now, well legal to make and buy for personal use but not to manufacture, so it has to be purchased over seas..was just wanting some other opinions on which kind of Absinthe to try..Absinthe is sort of like wine, there is a lot of kinds and they all taste different almost, or different strengths of Wormwood...good shit imo

go to www.greenfairy.org
Their "green fairy" is top ranked (and has the highest Thuijone) , but I prefer the Absinthium 1792. Guess it depends on what you want. Haven't tried their newest offerings yet though (Olivia).

Lucid is also available in the US. As for the quality/taste I can't recommend it because I don't drink.

The US laws are weird on Absinthe -- it's actually legal to manufacture in the US now, but without wormwood -- which basically makes it pointless.
You defiantly need to purchase overseas.

I had a couple of shots of absinthe WITH wormwood several years ago, and it didn't do a damn thing. It just tastes like anise as I recall.
Lots of people say the same thing - - unless you just LIKE the taste of liquorice-y alcohol, you're wasting your time. Not that you were nescessarily looking for any kind of mind-altering substance in the first place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinth...ts_of_absinthe |

There's actually a long story here, that I encourage you to look up.

It's actually the wormwood which is the problem. I won't argue directly with the wiki, but taken from the wormwood wiki ... Quote:
You're basically ingesting a poison. It's like licking a poison frog ... small doses can do wierd things and over time, there's no telling what the effects are (the wiki link you posted goes as far to say that it's "unknown what the long term effects of drinking absinthe are). All that being said, I would recommend trying it again if you feel up for it. I've consumed a lot and I'll tell you that I've never hallucinated, and even though I've been drunk on it, it's a very different kind of drunk, and every time I've woken up the next morning with no ill effects. I can hardly say the same for beer. Just my 2cp.

However, I find the biggest problem is drinking cheap beer. I used to drink a metric ton of beer. Miller, bud, rolling rock, etc. all the cheap beers would leave me feeling pretty crappy in the morning. I switch it up to better beers (usually anything that you can *only* find in a bottle, most of the time at least $1 bottle or more at the liquor store) and I haven't had a problem since. Even lower end bottled beers like Leinenkugel, Sam Adams, and some of the cheaper imports. I don't know what it is about it. Perhaps something in the longer brewing and fermentation process cleans the beer, or the fact that it costs twice as much per bottle than it did for you per can makes you drink a reasonable amount. I don't know, I'm not a brewer or a connoisseur. I just used to drink a lot. Not so much anymore, though. |
