Magic Jack?

Staying up late watching the olympics has exposed a lot of late night info-mercials that I otherwise would not have seen. Besides the usual junk and the get rich promises by buying houses for 300 bucks, I saw an ad for the magic jack. Apparently its a jack that plugs into your computer and you just plug your phone into it and bam, you have phone service. Its supposed to be like 20 bucks a year, instead of paying monthly. My current phone bill is around 40 bucks a month, and my contract is up shortly. Just wondering if anyone has used, or heard anything about this thing. I tried looking it up on yahoo, but found alot of the same stuff and same testimonials over and over. And of course the official website isnt going to list any downfalls. If you know anything about it just lemme know =) thanks

I believe it's essentially the same thing as the Vonage V-Phone USB adapter. I haven't the foggiest who provides Magic Jack's service (might even be Vonage for all I know) or how good it is, but the technology has been around for a while, is stable, and works fine.

I'd be a bit leary of Magic Jack, if only because anything that seems to be too good to be legit... probably is. I'd personally go with a more established entity such as Vonage.

magic jack works, you get a number and the USB port. My father in-law uses it for his long distance calls and his 1-800 numbers. I think he pays like $30 a year for it after he bought it out right. Any phone can be used with it since he is useing a Peice of shit dollar store phone.

Thats awesome, it sounded too good to be true. Cant wait to call the phone company and tell em to beat it.

we have woman at work who will not shut up about her magic-jack phone service. My only concern with them would be staying power, but other than that they seem to be pretty solid. I will look into adding it once i move but currently i have no reason for it
