One trick is to embed invisible keywords that are relevant to your site many times...

For instance putting "photovoltaic solar cells" 1000 times in the background would get hit more than just saying "I sell photovoltaic solar cells"...

Of course this can be abused (and frequently is) to get people that could not care less about your product to come to your site.

SneakyD,
would you care to be a little more specific on how that is one? I am actually getting my web page made ( or at least started) today and that could be a nice trick. I am sure the guy making it for me knows about this, but just in case I would like to be able to tell him what I want.

-Thanks

Vy

Read up on the following subject.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...e+optimization

There are a variety of articles on it. Or, you can hire someone to do it for you.

SEO techniques can be classified into two broad categories: techniques that search engines recommend as part of good design, and those techniques that search engines do not approve of. The search engines attempt to minimize the effect of the latter, among them spamdexing. Industry commentators have classified these methods, and the practitioners who employ them, as either white hat SEO, or black hat SEO.[29] White hats tend to produce results that last a long time, whereas black hats anticipate that their sites may eventually be banned either temporarily or permanently once the search engines discover what they are doing.[30]

An SEO technique is considered white hat if it conforms to the search engines' guidelines and involves no deception. As the search engine guidelines[31][17][18][19] are not written as a series of rules or commandments, this is an important distinction to note. White hat SEO is not just about following guidelines, but is about ensuring that the content a search engine indexes and subsequently ranks is the same content a user will see.

White hat advice is generally summed up as creating content for users, not for search engines, and then making that content easily accessible to the spiders, rather than attempting to trick the algorithm from its intended purpose. White hat SEO is in many ways similar to web development that promotes accessibility,[32] although the two are not identical.

Black hat SEO attempts to improve rankings in ways that are disapproved of by the search engines, or involve deception. One black hat technique uses text that is hidden, either as text colored similar to the background, in an invisible div, or positioned off screen. Another method gives a different page depending on whether the page is being requested by a human visitor or a search engine, a technique known as cloaking.

Search engines may penalize sites they discover using black hat methods, either by reducing their rankings or eliminating their listings from their databases altogether. Such penalties can be applied either automatically by the search engines' algorithms, or by a manual site review.

One infamous example was the February 2006 Google removal of both BMW Germany and Ricoh Germany for use of deceptive practices.[33] Both companies, however, quickly apologized, fixed the offending pages, and were restored to Google's list.[34]

I can remember all the crap that was out there when I helped my brother promote his web site back in 1996. Most of them were just that, CRAP. They would spam unheard of search engines, and within minutes you would receive like 1000 emails from them. Was nuts. Depending on your budget, I would say try to get a small company that specializes in site promotion. But short of that the most important things used to be
Code:
<meta name="keywords" content="put even misspelled words in
here, or anagrams, etc">
While I don't know what the answer is these days, just take it
with a grain of salt. The best promotion used to come when they
sent their own spider bots (google and yahoo) to your site.

Another way I can remember though was to actually go to the search
engines yourself. For example go to YAHOO. Now search one of the
keywords from your site. Lets say "Business Plan". Now look at the
bottom of the page. There should be a "Submit your site" link.
Try that before you spend the big bucks, and see how it goes.

Good luck whatever you're doing...

as a web developer who has used both normal and black hat methods, i would suggest that you use legit methods. ive used a few tricks over the years to generate search engine traffic that weren't well, 100% in line with what google wants. the problem with black hat stuff is i ended up stealing a lot of traffic from other webmasters...who got mad pissy...and reported me to google =P (bye2u domain ~ aka, they ban it from their listings)

just make sure you specify page titles, meta tags, have text/content on your site, etc. the #1 thing that contributes to your ranking is incoming links. the more sites that link to you..the higher your page rank which...has a positive impact on your position in the listing.

there are a lot of other little things that can improve your listings...but it also depends on what exactly you plan on doing. if its just a simple company website....for a market local to your physical location, then make sure to include those in your keywords.

if you want to become the next millionaire via a web-based empire...well, consulting on that level would cost a decent amount =P.

Ok, so if i can get about 5000 websites to have links to my website that should help a lot. And i submitted my website url to Google, wether they decide to add it or not is up to them...

It seems i also need to search some other places where i can advertise for free to increase the links to my website. And possibly add more text to my website because right now i have been using a lot of graphics which are not read by these spiders or what ever they are... I have meta tags (about 20) and possibly i need to change these slightly.

don't forget to add alt tags to images, as that can help. also...dont worry about adding it to google. i mean you can, but the majority of their database is based off of their spider. and yea, 5000 incoming links would help...but it depends on the popularity of those pages.

one thing with search engines...is that so many people focus so heavily on getting around the rules when in the end, google > all. having a business model that relies on SE exploits is one doomed for eventual failure. once you get bigger, your exposure will grow...and as such, google will notice in some form and go "wtf? no."

id focus on making sure your site has plenty of text and the proper meta tag setup. from there its just exchanging links with other webmasters. in fact, a lot of webmasters do this...most of them setup link directories and such. i've known a few people who specialized in it and it was uh, kind of sad that they got paid for what they do. as a programmer i just sat in complete amazement at how retarded their job was and how much they got paid.

another tip: some people believe the text used in the link to your site can affect what search terms you show up for. so, if you want to show up for "kodi's love palace", you will want to make sure that any site that allows you to specify link text...uses "kodi's love palace"....resulting in the following link:

Code:
<a href="http://www.domain.com/">Kodi's Love Palace</a>
oh, and make sure you dont intermix http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com - as they'll have separate page ranks. i always use www for consistency.

thats all i can think of for now =P
